Airtel on Friday (8th June) announced the launch of an SMS option in Telugu for its customers in Andhra Pradesh. This new service is aimed at addressing the desire of customers wanting to communicate in their mother tongue. It is estimated that this feature will benefit about 85 per cent of Airtel customers in the State. Airtel SMS application is engineered by microimage mobile localization team. The product is distributed by company's Indian partner randominfotech.

Airtel introduces SMS service in Telugu

HYDERABAD: Airtel has introduced SMS option in Telugu for its customers in Andhra Pradesh.

The new service option is aimed at addressing the need of customers to communicate with their near and dear ones in their mother tongue, Bharat Airtel Ltd Andhra Pradesh circle Chief Executive Officer T Elango told reporters on Friday.

"It would be very relevant and handy for all customers who choose to communicate with each other in Telugu,'' he added.

To avail this service, Airtel customers need to download and activate a free-of-cost application on to their handset through 'Airtel Live', the company's entertainment portal.

Due to the unique key-entry and rendering mechanism in this application, customers can conveniently type an SMS in Telugu, Mr Elango explained.

This service also has a one touch help function, which provides a guide on how to use the English and numeric keyboard to type Telugu letters.
